I want to teach you how to build your own log cabin. HI, my name is Paul and welcome to my channel.
The Dream of my wife and I from childhood was to live in a log cabin in the country. Shortly after we married, that dream became a partial reality with our first off-grid log cabin, secluded in the foot hills of the Ouachita Mountains. Some years later, just down the valley, I built the log home of our dreams where we have lived and raised our family for nearly 25 years.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with other professional log builders and have gleaned much from their knowledge. With that being said, my desire is to provide you with complete detailed information so that you can build your own log homestead, be it from off-grid tiny cabin to refined log home.
Next to God and family, log and timber building is my passion. Please join me as I endeavor to help you on your journey to making YOUR dream become a reality.

This was a fun project building a shed for My Woodland Mills Sawmill. All the lumber for the shed was sawn on my sawmill so all in all very little money was invested into this build. Now the mill is protected from the elements and Uncle Tweety (the tractor) has a place to rest out of the weather as well. Amazing craftsmanship Mr. Paul
You are truly a master craftsman and I absolutely love watching you work, making tasks look so simple, when in fact they are very complicated. Thank you.
,,,hiya B,,C,,looking good my friend,, very nice & clean work,,,
You always make things like this look so easy. I can say from my experiences that none of this is that easy. I think it might be akin to watching Michelangelo paint for 25 minutes and then having a go myself, lol.
The man does construction like a cabinet maker.
That's some beautiful pieces of oak. I just love your way of doing the job properly. No rush, keeping everything in it's place, in angle, and inside your lines. Precision in it's greatest meaning of the word. And then the Beast (circular saw), I just love that piece of equipment in your "toolbox". As always a pleasure to learn from you, and listening to your calm, and simple way of getting, and pointing out, the important things, so the result always comes out perfect. Keep those chisels sharp, and have a great weekend. All the best to you and your loved ones. Michael.
Great job on camera work, thank you !
Beautiful. Appreciate the video.
Good Day Paul :) So much detail goes into your work (ART) Knowing the proper tools & looking after them makes for an awesome outcome of what you do, I wish my body wasn't so beat up & a little younger i change the way i build , Have an awesome weekend :))
Love your carpentry ASMR. It’s so relaxing and soothing to watch you work your magic. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. Blessings 🙏😊
Love the precision.
Brother Paul’s one of the best, if not the best
Takes time and patience to do what you do. I couldn't do it even when I was able.
Beautiful. Appreciate the video. 🙏🏻
This is the kind of work that becomes therapeutic! Take care Paul✌
Good video Paul. Always a pleasure to watch and learn , thanks for sharing YAH bless brother !
It's always a good Friday when I get a notification that the MASTER is in class. Enjoyed as usual Paul, keep safe and as always, prayers for you and your families continued health
I hate to see those red cedar posts on your bridge. In my experience, even in a protected environment, cedar is not as durable as almost any other wood.
Great craftsmanship, Paul. Thanks for sharing.
Nice sharp auger bit.
I have been following this man for quite a while now and I can only aspire to be as good as he is...
You are definitely a craftsman brother Paul
7:30 damn that's some circ saw
I just love your chainsaw skills.
I'm backroads, I prefer slow and steady as opposed to fast and loose.
Howdy y’all- yep, that’s my way of traveling. Enjoy the scenery. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless
really nice work you are a true craftsman. take care, be safe and well.
Howdy John- thank you so much for the kind words and for watching the video. Take care and God bless
This just proves to me that i have SO MUCH MORE to learn. Thank you for sharing your skills!!!
Howdy James- I sure appreciate you watching the videos and commenting. I’ve spent a good many years learning how to do what I do. It’s been a great journey. Hang in there. God bless
Found a very old Gransfors bruks doble bit axe head in very nice condition, the handle which was put on was firewood. But very happy with it now. I have had a few people wanting to buy it.
Howdy John- that’s great you found a nice axe. For me, the handle is very important because I want it to fit me. Take care and God bless
The last one is my favourite! That would be my dream axe! Cannot wait to get something like it! As always, great advice for buying!
Howdy John- I actually had to go back and watch the video to see which axe you were talking about. That is a really nice broad axe but a little bit too heavy for my liking. Keep looking and hopefully you’ll find what you are looking for. Take care and God bless
such precision!
Howdy Preacher- thank you so much for the kind words. God bless
I would love to spend a season or 2 working/learning from you.👍🏾
Howdy Charles- It has been a dream of mine to get someone who actually wanted to be an apprentice. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless
They just don't make em like Paul anymore
Howdy Geoffrey- thank you so much for the kind words. Much appreciated. Take care and God’s blessings to you
Cedar is so beautiful. The smell too. What a great wood.
Howdy Sam/ yes, it’s a beautiful wood and very aromatic. It’s very prolific around here and can be invasive. We’re fortunate to have an abundance of it. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless you
Excellent Paul! I’ve missed your detailed tutorials!! We never miss an opportunity to take the back roads…..
Howdy Ron- thank you so much. So much more to see on the back roads. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless you
Yes sir, the back road is always the better route.
Howdy Walt- I certainly agree with you. Love running the back roads. God bless
You love them timbers Paul :) & the back roads Yes it's not getting there it's the journey ! So much detail & i love the way you explain it :) Having some awesome hardwood to work with I can't wait to see it all together ! no rush keep it True & safe you will get there👍, Sounds like an awesome project :) Have a great weekend"
Howdy Don- thank you so much. I really enjoyed working the timbers from the log to the finish product. It’s been a real pleasure so far. Hope your hand is getting better. Take care up there. God bless
I share your love of the covered bridges Brother. Your sawer skills are clearly excellent, to have such square lumber is no mean feat. It is so good to see you are enjoying your new mill, it must be a real game changer. A very enjoyable film, it will be of such value to the younger generations of carpenter to learn from your good example. Best wishes to you and your kin, God bless.
Howdy Lucas- I think you and I have a lot in common , not just the passion for what we do, but the same philosophy on getting it done. Yes, I’m enjoying the sawmill. I can take the time to get the timbers fairly close to be right on the money which makes it easier to work the timber out to the finished product. Thank you so much for watching the video. Hope all is well. God’s blessings to you and your family
The cuts that you made on the tenons look as good as, if not better, than what may have been achieved on a CNC machine. That Cedar tree or trees must have been huge and possibly very old. I would have liked to have been there when you planed the posts. I know how good Cedar smells and I really like it. I would have like to been able to purchase the pieces you cut off of the tenons. This is going to be a Sweet build. Have good days!
Howdy Buddy- thank you so much for the kind words. These cedars grow pretty fast and they can be invasive if not control. The wonderful aroma is in the red heart wood. I would have given you all the cut offs. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless
Paul, You build this beautiful traditionally notched and hand constructed log home ... and then the owner slams factory made trusses on it ... ... What a shame - I dearly hope they don't take short cuts like that with the rest of the project thinking that the details don't matter. It's the opposite - the details are what sets the job apart and has what has kept me watching your channel - Who else takes the time to put hewing marks in sawen logs ? Darn few folks ... that's who ... I love the detail and craftsmanship you bring to your work. You care about what you do and the work you leave behind - and that sir is true rarity in today's day and age. Kindest Regards, CW Peterson Grass Valley, California; USA
Howdy CW- we had originally planned on doing the timber rafters but it was decided to put up the conventional trusses so I was contracted to do the log work. It was an enjoyable project for the part l did. I could have had the entire project but it was so far away from where I live. Four hour drive one way and nearly 200 miles. Thank you so much for watching the video and for commenting. Take care and God bless you
Hi Paul. Ooh my, I'm so looking forward to this project you're starting up. As always you impress me with your precision, and your way of showing us "how to". Looking forward to the following videos on you homebuilding a walking bridge. All the best to you and your family, from your apprentice in the Swedish woods. Michael.
Howdy Michael- I sure appreciate you watching the video. It’s been a great project so far. I’ve really enjoyed it. Hope all is well with you. God bless
This is going to be a fun project to follow along with! And the scenery is what I would expect coming from you👌 Thanks Paul✌
Howdy Marc- it’s been very enjoyable so far. Yea, I like seeing all the scenery. God bless
Sharp tools are the key!
Howdy Brother- if anyone would know you certainly would. Always a pleasure to hear from you. God’s blessings to y’all
@@TheBeardedCarpenter Shalom
Paul, that is some pretty wood... we have lots of cedar here but don't have that pink look to it... did u say before that it's actually juniper? Thanks for sharing there eh!
Howdy Denis- this is what we call red cedar but it’s actually a juniper. It has a deep red heart and very aromatic. It grows in abundance where we are. Thank you so much for watching the video. Hope you are doing well. God bless
Sharp tools sure make things easier...I like that Japanese slick. That would come in handy for a lot of things. I like the handle on that shoulder plane too. Busting your knuckles up isn’t too much fun!😂 Always a pleasure watching you do what you love.
Howdy Chris- I like all my edge tools to have a scary sharp edge on them. They aren’t allowed to get much below a working edge before they get tuned back up. That shoulder plane is really nice to use. I sure appreciate you watching our videos. Hope all is well out your way. God bless
If well looked after (and I'm sure it will be) that construction will last for many centuries.
Howdy y’all- thank you so much for watching the video and for the nice comment. I’m sure it will be well taken care of. God bless
WoW! That’s Tremendously Awesome! I Loved it! 🤩❤️✨
Howdy Juan- thank you so much for the kind words and for watching the video. God bless
Another great build that will last well into history
Howdy Geoffrey- thank you so much for the kind words. God bless
The back roads are ALWAYS best and this bridge is going to be AMAZING. Can't wait to see it coming together brother.
Howdy y’all- thank you so much for your kindness and for watching the video. It’s been an enjoyable project so far. Come see us sometime. Take care and stay safe in the heat. God bless y’all
Very nice, looking forward to future videos.
Howdy Big Red- I sure appreciate you watching the videos and for the nice comment. Take care and God bless
This is going to be beautiful! Where is this going?
Howdy Sis- thank you so much! It’s going in a city park up the hiway. God’s blessings to y’all
Your craftmanship is impressive to say the least! your joinery on this bridge is worthy of fine furniture.
Howdy y’all- thank you so much for the kind words and for watching the video. God bless you
